Details of The Silk Road Adventure

Day 1: Arrive in Beijing
Our guide will meet you outside the baggage claim area at Beijing Airport and take you to the hotel. The rest of the day is on your own to explore the city at leisure. -
Day 2: Beijing (B, L, D)
Pick you up from your hotel and visit Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. A Beijing Duck Dinner will be served at a famous restaurant, followed by a lively Peking Opera performance at the Liyuan Theatre. Transfer back to your hotel.
- Tiananmen Square: the largest public square in the world. It is 880 meters from north to south, and 500 meters from east to west, with a total area of 440,000 square meters and can hold one million people.
- Forbidden City: the largest ancient imperial palaces where 24 emperors, 14 of the Ming and 10 of the Qing, ruled the country from here over a span of nearly 500 years.
- Temple of Heaven: The temple was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests. -
Day 3: Beijing (B, L)
Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Badaling Great Wall. To avoid having lunch at shopping site restaurants, you will be driven to have Sichuan food at a local popular restaurant. Visit the Sacred Way, the Ming Tomb, the Bird's Nest (Olympic National Stadium), You will see its appearance at a distance. Afther the day tour, transfer back to your hotel.
- Badaling Great Wall: As its name implies it gives access to every direction. With an elevation of 600 meters it is the most famous and best-preserved section of the Great Wall.
- Ming Tomb: it is the largest clusters of imperial cemeteries in China. They are mausoleums of thirteen emperors of the Ming Dynasty.
- Sacred Road: Which means the road leading to heaven is lined with 18 pairs of stone human figures and animals, they are important decorations of the mausoleum. -
Day 4: Beijing - Urumqi (B, L)
Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Summer Palace. Then take a flight to Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and transfer to the hotel.
- Summer Palace: the largest and best preserved imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty extant in Beijing, as well as a famous classical imperial garden. -
Day 5: Urumqi - Kashgar (B)
You will take a morning flight to Kashgar, "the pearl of the Ancient Silk Road". Upon arrival you will be taken to the local best hotel. Visit the famous Sunday Market.
- Sunday Market: it is a social and commercial highlight of the week in Western Xinjiang. In the bazaar you can find different kinds of goods: ironware, silverware, fruit, clothes, local food, livestock, etc. Traders are buying and selling one week's stock of cows, sheep, goats and horses. The process of bargaining is fantastic. There is a bazaar everyday in Kashgar, but the one on Sunday is the liveliest, as the whole community gets together. -
Day 6: Kashgar - Urumqi - Turpan (B)
Visit the Id Kah Mosque, the Old Street and the Abakh Khoja Tomb. Take a flight to Urumqi and be transferred to Turpan. Check in at the hotel. -
Day 7: Turpan (B)
Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Jiaohe Ruins, the Karez Well and the Sugong Pagoda. After the tour, transfer back to your hotel.
- Jiaohe Ruins: Jiaohe means twisting rivers in Chinese, it is surrounded by sheer cliffs and it is the best preserved town ruin in China.
- Karez Well: is a kind of underground water works invented and built by laboring people of various ethnic groups in China to adapt to the natural environment in dry region.
- Sugong Pagoda: is the largest extant old tower in Xinjiang; it is the only Islamic tower among the hundred famous towers in China. -
Day 8: Turpan - Dunhuang (B)
Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Gaochang Ruins, the Baizikeli Thousand Buddha Cave and the Flaming Hill. Take an overnight soft sleeper train to Dunhuang.
- Gaochang Ruins: used to be a key point along the Silk Road, Gaochang ancient city was now one of the best-preserved ruins of the ancient cities in China. -
Day 9: Dunhuang
You will be picked up at the railway station and transferred to the hotel. Visit the Mogao Grottoes and the Dunhuang Museum. Breakfast is on your own. (Tips: The overnight train from Turpan to Dunhuang arrives in the late morning. There is no breakfast supplied on the train, nor is breakfast available at the hotel when you arrive in Dunhuang since it's too late. We suggest you buy some fast food or fruit before boarding the train in Turpan. After arrival in Dunhuang you can also buy some KFC or local food for breakfast before the tour starts.)
- Mogao Grottoes: Mogao means high up in the desert. The Mogao Caves are the best known of the Chinese Buddhist grottoes and, along with Longmen Grottoes and Yungang Grottoes, are one of the three famous ancient sculptural sites of China. -
Day 10: Dunhuang - Xian (B)
You will experience a short camel-ride along the Echoing-Sand Dune to reach the Crescent Spring. Take a flight to Xian and transfer to the hotel.
- Echoing-Sand Dune: The Dune is five kilometers (about three miles) away from the city of Dunhuang. Seen from afar, the mountain is just like a golden dragon winding its way over the horizon.
- Crescent Spring: is a natural wonder shape like a crescent in the desert. It enjoys the title of "The Wonders of the Gobi Desert." -
Day 11: Xian (B, L)
Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Terra Cotta Warriors. To avoid having the poor food at the site, you will take highway back to downtown to have lunch at a well-known Cantonese cuisine restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and City Wall. This evening you will be entertained with the marvelous Tang Dynasty Show. After the day tour, transfer back to your hotel.
- Terra Cotta Warriors: It is a part of the tomb complex of Qin emperor, the Terra Cotta Warriors is the greatest findings in the archeology world.
- Big Wild Goose Pagoda: the symbol of the long history of Xian, and a well-preserved ancient building and holy worshipping shrine for Buddhists.
- Ancient City Wall: the most complete city wall survived in China as well as one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.
- Tang Dynasty Show: a wonderful performance of the ancient music and dance, is a must when you visit Xian. -
Day 12: Xian - Shanghai (B, L)
Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Great Mosque and a local family in the morning. After enjoying an a la carte lunch at a local famous restaurant, take a flight to Shanghai and transfer to the hotel.
- Great Mosque: is one of the oldest and best preserved as well as most renowned mosques in the country. It is northwest of the Drum Tower on 30 Huajue Lane. -
Day 13: Shanghai (B, L, D)
Pick you up from your hotel and visit the Shanghai Museum and the Yuyuan Garden. After lunch, transfer you to the Bund area, where you will take a cruise tour on the Huangpu River. The cruise will start at 14:00, reach the Wusongkou pier and then get back to the Bund at 17:00. Leave you some free time to explore the Bund area on your own. Tonight an a la carte farewell dinner is served at Central Hotel, whose restaurant Wang Bao He has a history of around 260 years and is the best place to serve Shanghai Cuisine. The memorable dinner will be followed by the Portman Acrobatic Show at the Shanghai Centre Theatre.
- Shanghai Museum: ranked as the best museum of China.
- Yuyuan Garden: is considered one of the most lavish and finest Chinese gardens in the region.
- The Bund: the picturesque bund with tall building of various tower over the river, looking as a museum of modern world architecture.
- Nanjing Road: the most famous thoroughfare for shopping and entertainment in Shanghai. -
Day 14: Departure from Shanghai (B)
Pick you up from your hotel and transfer to the airport. See off.
